‘Let’s Talk Research’ Series 2: Decoding the Myth of ‘Mystics’ with Golam Rabbani, PhD

TESOL Society of Bangladesh (TSB) and the Department of English Studies at State University of Bangladesh (SUB) organized the second session of the ‘Let’s Talk Research’ series. Golam Rabbani, PhD, Assistant Professor at Toronto Metropolitan University, Canada, presented on “Decoding the Myth of ‘Mystics’: The Exotification and Misrepresentation of Baul Culture and Communities.” 

Dr. Rabbani addressed the misrepresentation of Bauls by Western scholars and Bengali elites, dispelling prevalent misconceptions and offering guidance on engaging with the community without exploitation. The session included Q&A and discussions with Dr. Faheem Hasan Shahed, Director of the Center for Language Studies at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, and Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman, Associate Professor at Cumilla University.

The webinar series provides a platform for English Language practitioners, academics, and aspiring researchers to discuss recent research and stay updated with the latest knowledge. The welcome speech was delivered by Hamidul Haque, Assistant Professor & Head of English at the American International University Bangladesh, and Vice-President of TESOL Society of Bangladesh. Touhida Easmin Humaira, Assistant Professor & Acting Head of English Studies at State University of Bangladesh, highlighted the collaboration between TESOL Society of Bangladesh and the university.
